Human Resources Committee

Patricia Somerville, Chair

Focusing on human resources issues, legislative changes and proposed policies that have the potential to impact Chamber members and Chamber staff, the Human Resources committee addresses and follows Labour relations, Workforce planning, Labour attraction and retention, Immigration, Health and Safety and Educational workshops for business issues.

Business After Five Committee

Jonathan George, Chair

One of the most popular events our membership enjoys is the free monthly Business After Five (BA5) events, co-hosted by member businesses as a means to showcase their offerings and provide a platform for member networking, refreshments, door prizes, and business promotions. Each year shortly after being inducted as board members in April, the new committee convenes to review the standing host list, consider new hosts, and discuss ways to enhance the annual business Trade Show held in September.

Business & Government Affairs Committiee

Steve Helwig, Chair

This committee examines issues and proposed legislative plans that may
have concern or potential consequences to our membership. The committee follows municipal, regional, provincial and federal governmental happenings, in areas pertaining to business regulations and reports and advocates on behalf of the board accordingly. Additionally they help to organize information seminars, all-candidate nights and associated forums on matters of government policy or legislation that has particular impact on membership.

Bursary Committee

Rick Phibbs, Chair

This committe is responsible for Chamber's Bursary Awards Program and annual cheque presentation ceremony. Members of the committee use a scoring matrix to review, score, tally student application forms and select the recipients to be awarded one of four (4) $500 Chamber bursary awards. The committee helps to plan and organize the brunch ceremony for recipients and their families held on the second Sunday in August.

Technology Committee

Trent Matthews, Chair

The Technology Committee monirtors the electronic and technology needs of the Greater Fort Erie Chamber of Commerce administration. In addition it helps to direct and promote the organization's promotional needs utilizing social networking opportunities.

Strategic Planning Committee

Adam Lampman, Chair

This committee is focused on reviewing, updating and implementing the organization's strategic plan-- making sure that it is operating in accordance with its vision/mission statement, reviewing the organization's current state,  and mapping a means to achieving our vision. Committee members should have experience in putting together strategic plans and have the ability to think "big picture".

Auction Committee

Gerry Brisson, Chair

This committee is responsible for planning the Chamber's main fundraising event of the year (held in November) to which a portion of the proceeds help fund the Chamber's Annual Bursary Awards Program. Committee members help organize all aspects of the event including choosing the auctioneer, venue, decor, ticket sales,  soliciting for sponsorships and auction items, marketing, entertainment, etc.

Golf Committee

Rick Phibbs, Chair

Golf Committe members take on the planning and execution of this annual fundraising event. Themed as the Mayor’s Drive for Business, this committee meets before and after the June event. Responsibilities include selecting the course and venue, registration gift, prizes, sponsorship opportunities, registering golfers, and marketing the event. Additionally, members are asked to bring their best ideas and strategies for increasing member participation and overall event growth.

Education Committee

Trent Matthews, Chair

The Education Committee implements various educational and professional development seminars of interest to our business community.  We help educate, inform, and improve daily business performances by providing forums for our members to connect and learn from experts in their respective fields.

International Women’s Day Committee

Barbara Scarlett, Chair

Our International Women's Day Networking Luncheon is typically held the first Friday of March. Committee members work together to plan this popular event which brings women from across Niagara together for an afternoon of dining, shopping exhibitor booths, choosing venue, menu, keynote speaker, business displays, decorations, sponsors, and more.
