Nine structures along the QEW, including the Thompson Road ramp underpass and the Central Avenue underpass northbound and southbound structures, will be rehabilitated in 2017, resulting in the temporary closure of the Thompson Road ramp for the majority of 2017.
Morrison Hershfield Ltd. has been retained by the Ministry of Transportation to conduct a Detail Design and Class Environmental Assessment Study for the rehabilitation of these structures. The study will follow the approved planning process for a Group 'C' project in accordance with the Class Environmental Assessment of Provincial Transportation Facilities, 2000 (Class EA) with the opportunity for public input throughout the study. Group 'C' projects are considered to be approved under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act, subject to compliance with the Class EA and the application of mitigation measures, where necessary.
Construction of the Thompson Road ramp structure will be undertaken under full closure of the ramp at the QEW, and is expected to commence in the spring of 2017 and conclude by December 2017. Detour route signing will be provided to manage traffic during the full closure to detour around the ramp via the Concession Road off-ramp to Prince of Wales Drive and Bertie Street.
Comments or concerns regarding the proposed closure, or the project in general, can be directed to either John Grebenc, P. Eng., Project Manager, Morrison Hershfield Ltd. at email@example.com, or Hossein Hosseini, P.Eng., Project Engineer, Ministry of Transportation, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
